The Rijksmuseum

Cuypers' Rijksmuseum was a revolution in its time: a 'Catholic' architectural style in a Protestant country. The Rijksmuseum is also revolutionary when it comes to restoration: over the past decade it has perhaps been one of the most talked-about restorations, and not only in the Netherlands.

Millions of visitors who admire the museum have no idea of the technical feats used to make the new museum possible.

Restoration advice & foundation repair

Take, for example, the demolition of all the buildings right next to the historic monument, without damaging the monumental parts. But also the construction of the basement and the lowering of the basement floor under the passage while the finishing work is taking place in the museum itself, the digging of very deep construction pits between the existing wooden poles, the jacking (lifting) of that passage and the digital measurement of the existing state in order to make new parts fit exactly.

Technical specialist work

We enjoy this piece of history and the spectacular result that is visible after the renovation. But we also secretly enjoy the invisible technical work that has taken place underground and to which we contributed with restoration advice and foundation repair.
